The Forum provides attendees an important opportunity to advocate for the workforce development system to Members of Congress. We want to make this process as effortless as possible and have developed this toolkit to make sure that your advocacy efforts are of maximum effectiveness. Leading up to Forum 2020, NAWB will be hosting a series of webinars for members that will prepare you to make the most of your time in DC.
If you are a member of NAWB please send an email to bandstram@nawb.org
and we will set up meeting(s) with your Members of Congress.
If you are not an NAWB member, please click here
for instructions on how to set up a meeting. These meetings must be planned before your trip so please plan accordingly.
We have put together a guide for once your meeting is scheduled to help you prepare, that you can find here.
We have prepared a policy principles document that may be used to develop speaking points as well as a ‘leave behind’ piece, we encourage you to use this in conjunction with any local data and impacts you find significant.
One of the most important parts of your visit to The Hill is developing relationships, we encourage that you follow up directly after your meeting using this “Thank You Note” template.
Meeting with Members of Congress is a noteworthy event, we recommend that you draft a press release acknowledging your meeting for which we have created a template.
There will be additional opportunities to engage around advocacy throughout the Forum, including an advocacy-focused pre-conference session. Click here for our Advocacy Toolkit which includes tips, tricks, and general talking points!
Please direct any questions, comments, or requests for further instruction to bandstram@nawb.org.
